Questions We Get a Lot

When does the Sitka season run?

Our season runs from May 1 through September 15, which covers some of the most productive and scenic months in Southeast Alaska.

What do I need to bring?

Come ready for weather that changes through the day. Layers, a warm hat and sunglasses go a long way. We supply the rods, reels, tackle and all weather rain gear, so you do not need to travel with fishing gear.

Do I need a fishing license?

Yes. An Alaska sport fishing license is required, and you will need a King Salmon stamp if you want to retain a king. Halibut stamps outside of a package are 20 dollars daily.

How many people can come?

Trips run with groups of 4 to 6 guests, so the boat stays private to your party.

What are we fishing for?

King and silver salmon, halibut, lingcod, black cod and rockfish, depending on the time of year and the conditions that day. Whales are a regular part of the ride.

What gear do you run?

G. Loomis rods paired with Shimano reels on 30 pound mono for salmon, rockfish and lingcod. Daiwa rods with Avet reels on 80 pound braid for halibut, and Daiwa rods with Tanacom reels for black cod.

Is food included?

Yes. A hearty breakfast and lunch come with every trip, along with ice cold water, soda and coffee.

Do you handle the fish at the end of the day?

Catch cleaning and filleting are part of every trip. Fish processing and your halibut stamp are included on the package trips.

Where do we stay?

Lodging is included on the 3 day and 4 day packages. Guests on other trips book hotels or vacation rentals in Sitka, and prices vary depending on where you stay.
